Witch Hazel is the Best Kept Beauty Secret.

October 10, 2018

Witch Hazel has been around for many many years to help ease skin conditions and help with acne. But what is witch hazel? It is produced from the leaves and bark of the North American Witch Hazel shrub, and was widely used for medicinal purposes by American Indians. When distilled and combined with alcohol, the oil from the bark of the witch hazel shrub makes a soothing and mildly astringent lotion that people have been using for years! There are so many usages for this plant and so many people do not know it exists.

Facial Cleansing

Witch hazel has the unique ability to clean skin and dry up excessive oil without leaving skin overly dry. My favorite way to use this for my skin is with Thayers Witch Hazel Unscented Toner. I use it on a small cotton pad and cleanse my face after washing. It has helped exponentially with oil control and I have seen a significant change in my acne and small stubborn pimples. It has even been shown to be helpful to people with cystic acne. I have seen many before and afters that are astonishing.

Smaller Pores

Everyone wants smaller pores and now you can get it naturally! The main helpful ingredient in witch hazel is tannins. Tannins are a bitter naturally occurring substances in many barks or skins of plants. The tannins are responsible for making witch hazel natural astringent, which helps to remove extra oil from the skin. These astringent properties are cleansing to the skin, while minimizing the size of pores.

Bags Under the Eyes

Many have heard of using hemorrhoid cream under your eyes to help with bags. But you may not know that witch hazel is one of the main ingredients in these products. It helps tighten and lift the skin while also reducing bagginess.

Body Acne

Witch hazel can help tremendously with body acne! When used with rose water on acne prone areas like the chest and back studies have shown those areas to clear up within weeks of using.

Who Can Use Witch Hazel?

Witch Hazel has been approved on all skin types. Whether you have normal, dry, sensitive, oily or even have cystic acne you can use this natural product. It has zero alcohol content and is loved by so many. It has become a staple in mine and all my friends skin care routines even though we all have a variety of skin types and skin problem areas. It is amazing how universal one product can be!

Where Can I Get It?

What makes this product even better is that it is not very expensive and sold almost everywhere. There are many different brands of witch hazel and all work the same and are around the same price. On Amazon I found my favorite Thayer’s Witch Hazel for $9.28. In Walmart they sell another brand for about $3.00 and many larger brands are starting to add it into their product lines. Neutrogena, a brand most people know and love, launched an astringent with witch hazel. The beauty of this product is that it can be found at almost any drug store in any area and if not Amazon has an endless supply.

This product is one of the best kept beauty secrets and I highly recommend no matter what age or what state your skin is in that you try out this easily accessible and affordable product. The power of this plant is so gentle yet extraordinary and is a must-have for any household. If you are curious, go pick some up and give it a try and let the product speak for itself!
